Da...Da...Da...Day on tour.
Day dedicated to cultural activities: guided tour to the swamps and to the Oak Plantation, sugarcane plantation with slaves included (now released).
Apart from the diabetic raccoon, that the boat’s driver fed with marshmallows, the swamps have been interesting.
The problem started in the afternoon, when our driver/guide took the lead of the tour, taking us to the plantation.
This nice creole guy had some “minor” speech impediment, as he:
1 – Spoke at 673 words-per-second speed
2 – Stuttered
3 – Was drooling and spitting
The worst thing was that, in response to our glazed looks and our “we don’t understand”, repeated again and again, he pretended not to hear us and went on speaking as if there wasn’t anything wrong, at a record speed, spitting on us and slowing down only when stuttering, thus creating more and more chaos in our already confused minds.
Needless to say that, apart from the name of the Plantation, we did not get much information on the history of slavery in Louisiana.
Luckily, the movie “Django” gave us an overview of the subject in advance. Thanks Quentin.
